Rivers State–born cyclist Ikpo Godspower Boniface, popularly known as Ogechi Boniface, has successfully completed an eight-day, 700km cycling journey from Lokoja in Kogi State to Port Harcourt, dedicating the achievement to his mother, a breast cancer survivor.
Boniface described the expedition as a deeply personal and spiritual mission inspired by his mother’s battle and recovery. He said her strength motivated him to undertake the challenge under the theme “Stronger Together, Healthier Tomorrow,” aimed at promoting breast cancer awareness.
Recounting the route, he explained that the journey passed through several major cities, including Okene, Auchi, Benin City, Asaba, Onitsha, and Owerri before arriving in Port Harcourt. He noted that the ride tested his endurance but remained meaningful due to its purpose.
The Emuoha-born Ikwerre athlete completed the journey alongside Team Subsea Cycling Club Port Harcourt, with additional support from Einstein Hospitals, D/Line, Port Harcourt.
Boniface said the cycling tour has strengthened his advocacy for breast cancer awareness, describing the disease as one of the leading causes of death among women. He urged government agencies, health institutions, and community leaders to intensify efforts toward early detection and treatment.
He also expressed gratitude to Einstein Hospitals, Team Subsea Cycling Club, and his community for their support, which he said was crucial to the success of the ride.
