As the 2025 Tour de France approaches, cycling legend Bernard Hinault has expressed strong support for Slovenian superstar Tadej Pogacar, predicting that he could surpass Hinault’s record of five Tour victories.
The Frenchman, a five-time winner of the race, believes that the 26-year-old UAE Team Emirates rider, who has already won three Tours, is more than capable of adding to his tally and even challenging the all-time records.
Hinault’s endorsement comes after Pogacar's dominant performances earlier this year, including his victory in the Criterium du Dauphine and multiple one-day classics.
Hinault describes Pogacar as a "complete rider" and sees him as the only current cyclist who could potentially break the all-time Tour de France victory record.
Despite this optimism for Pogacar, Hinault remains less hopeful about the prospects of a French winner, lamenting the lack of a French champion since his own 1985 victory.
