Bangladesh sealed the top position in Group B of the Under-19 Asia Cup after defeating Sri Lanka by 39 runs in Dubai. The victory was anchored by strong contributions from the top order, with Zawad Abrar and Rifat Beg putting on an 84-run opening stand, followed by captain Azizul Hakim and Kalam Siddiki adding 53 for the third wicket.
Despite this solid foundation, Bangladesh collapsed from 163 for 3 to 225 all out in 46.3 overs. Offspinner Kavija Gamage was the main threat for Sri Lanka, claiming 4 for 38 to dismantle the middle and lower order.
Sri Lanka struggled to gain momentum in their chase, losing three early wickets for just 38 runs in 14 overs. Chamika Heenatigala provided some resistance, top-scoring with 41, but Bangladesh continued to pick up wickets at regular intervals.
At 126 for 8, Sri Lanka’s chances were effectively over. Despite some late hits from Aadham Hilmy, the visitors were eventually bowled out for 186. Iqbal Hossain Emon (3 for 37) and Shahriar Ahmed (3 for 27) were the standout bowlers for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s win ensures they advance to the semi-finals, where they will face Pakistan. Meanwhile, India will take on Sri Lanka in the other semi-final. Both matches are scheduled for Friday, December 19, in Dubai.
