Ayao Mawouli of Togo delivered a standout performance to win the third edition of the eTranzact Golf Classic, a key event on the Professional Golfers’ Development Tour. The tournament concluded over the weekend at the Lakowe Lakes Golf Club in Lagos.
Mawouli posted a level-par 72 in the opening round and followed it with an impressive second round of 68, bringing his total to 140 over 36 holes. His consistency and shot-making secured him the top spot ahead of a competitive field of 88 golfers representing various countries.
Due to heavy rainfall, the tournament was shortened from its original 54-hole schedule. The decision was made by PGD Tour Commissioner Femi Olagbenro, who confirmed that the conditions had rendered the course unplayable for the final round.
As the champion, Mawouli received a prize of ₦10.2 million. Nigerian golfer Kamalu Bako finished second, earning ₦6 million, while Kouakou Richard-Kouame of Côte d’Ivoire came third. Ibrahim Ocheje, Oche Odoh, and Jean-Romaric Kouassi tied for fourth place.
In the women's division, Rukayat Mustafa of Ikoyi Club and Blessing Abdul of St Mark Golf Club shared the top position, both finishing with scores of 158. Each was awarded the winning prize in their category.
Niyi Toluwalope, the Managing Director of eTranzact, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, emphasizing the company’s commitment to promoting youth engagement and sports development across the continent. He also praised the international diversity of the tournament, which featured players from several African nations.
The eTranzact Golf Classic continues to grow in stature, offering a strong platform for emerging professionals and contributing to the development of golf in Nigeria and West Africa.
