England Struggles Continue as Australia Dominates Third Day of Second Ashes Test

Posted : 06 December 2025

England’s campaign in the second Ashes Test and their wider series ambitions suffered a heavy blow on a dismal third day in Brisbane. At a ground where they have not won since 1986, Australia exerted complete control, dominating with the bat before piling relentless pressure on England’s batsmen.

By the close of the day, England were in disarray at 134-6 in their second innings, still 43 runs behind, narrowly avoiding defeat inside three days. After facing a first-innings deficit of 177, England had shown early promise, reaching 45 without loss from six overs before the dinner break under the pink ball.

However, England’s inability to sustain batting resilience proved costly. Ben Duckett was bowled by Scott Boland, while Ollie Pope and Zak Crawley fell to ill-judged drives off Michael Neser. Joe Root edged Mitchell Starc, Harry Brook was dismissed by Boland, and Jamie Smith became another casualty attempting to drive Starc. Ben Stokes and Will Jacks remained unbeaten on four, but England’s lineup continued to crumble around them.

Australia had earlier set the tone with a commanding first innings of 511, highlighted by 77 from Mitchell Starc, the pace bowler continuing his stellar series with the bat. The slow accumulation of runs in the Brisbane sunshine and England’s predictable collapse reinforced Australia’s dominance, leaving the visitors staring down a steep battle in the Ashes series.
