Augustine Nabueze delivered a commanding performance to win the seventh edition of the OBJ Golf Tournament, sponsored by First Bank of Nigeria Limited. The tournament was held at the Abeokuta Golf Club on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
From the opening tee shot to the final putt, Nabueze maintained a consistent and impressive lead, securing his place as the tournament’s overall winner. His triumph came in a highly competitive field that featured more than 140 amateur and professional golfers from across Nigeria.
This year’s edition of the tournament marked another milestone in the growing legacy of the OBJ Golf Tournament, established in 2015 to honour the contributions of former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. Since its inception, the event has evolved into one of the most respected and anticipated fixtures in Nigeria’s golfing calendar.
The tournament not only celebrates sporting excellence but also aims to promote unity, wellness, and community development through golf. Speaking ahead of the competition, the captain of Abeokuta Golf Club, Sunday Ajiboye, described the event as a platform for fun, relaxation, and healthy competition, adding that participants could expect an elevated tournament experience.
First Bank of Nigeria, the headline sponsor of the tournament, continues to demonstrate its commitment to sports development in Nigeria through its First@Sports initiative. The bank’s enduring support for golf and other sporting activities reflects its broader vision of empowering communities and fostering youth development through active participation in sport.
Nabueze’s victory further reinforces the importance of the OBJ Tournament in discovering and celebrating emerging talent within Nigeria’s golfing scene. Organisers have already expressed plans to make the 2026 edition even more impactful, building on the success of this year’s event.
With strong corporate backing, enthusiastic participation, and an ever-growing reputation, the OBJ Golf Tournament remains a key driver of golf development in Nigeria.
