Asagba of Asaba Launches Golf Tournament, Donates ₦5 Million

Posted : 24 December 2025

The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, officially launched the maiden edition of the Prof. Epiphany Azinge Golf Tournament at the Ibori Golf and Country Club (IGCC) in Asaba, marking a significant milestone in the sporting and social life of the Delta State capital.

The event also included the formal decoration of the monarch as Patron of the Ibori Golf and Country Club, following his acceptance of the appointment by the club’s leadership.

Speaking at the occasion, Prof. Azinge expressed sincere appreciation to the Club Captain, Patrick Ukah, members of the Executive Committee, and the Board of Trustees for the honour. He commended the organisers for the successful hosting of the tournament and praised the participants for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship.

The Asagba personally presented awards to the winner, first runner-up, and second runner-up, congratulating them on their outstanding performances.

Reflecting on the history of Asaba, the monarch traced the city’s evolution from the early discovery era, through the Royal Niger Company period, to its designation as the capital of Delta State in 1991. He noted that Asaba has since developed into a major hub for tourism, hospitality, and socio-economic activities.

Describing the Ibori Golf and Country Club as a vital asset to the Asaba Kingdom, Prof. Azinge encouraged traditional titleholders, political leaders, and indigenes to support the club through membership and active participation. He also expressed satisfaction with the state of the golf course, urging management to maintain the facility properly.

Demonstrating his commitment to the growth and development of the club, the Asagba inaugurated the proposed Cart Shade Project with a personal donation of ₦5 million. In the same spirit, Obi Onyemanaogeme Ajufoh and Hon. Engr. Kennedy Okafor contributed ₦500,000 each, while several other members made financial pledges toward the project.
