Safety Shooters and Safety Babes, both owned by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), have taken commanding leads in the men’s and women’s categories respectively, as Phase 1 of the Ardova Handball Premier League 2025 concluded at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo State.
In the men’s division, Safety Shooters solidified their top position with a convincing 26–20 (16–07) win over Niger United on the final matchday. They ended the phase with 28 points from 10 matches, winning nine and losing just once. Their remarkable campaign included a league-high 322 goals and a +91 goal difference, edging out COAS Shooters, who also had 28 points, but with an inferior +50 goal difference.
COAS Shooters wrapped up their campaign with a strong 38–31 (18–13) win over De Defenders, but had to settle for second place. Rima Strikers completed the top three with 25 points, having secured seven wins, one draw, and two losses. Tojemarine Academy (24 points) and Correction Boys (22 points) rounded out the top five.
Despite losing to Safety Shooters, Niger United retained sixth place with 19 points. Osun United, who edged Benue Buffaloes 20–19 (11–09), also finished with 19 points but fell to seventh due to an inferior goal difference. De Defenders, Adamawa Warriors, Benue Buffaloes, and Lagos Seasiders — who lost 21–28 to Adamawa — occupied the eighth to eleventh positions respectively.
In the women’s league, defending champions Safety Babes proved unstoppable, winning all seven of their matches to finish Phase 1 with a perfect 21 points. They recorded 242 goals scored and conceded only 173, earning a +69 goal difference as they continue their pursuit of an unprecedented five consecutive league titles.
Rima Queens secured second place with a thrilling 34–31 (15–18) comeback victory over Soof Omo Ogiefo. They ended the phase with 20 points from six wins and one draw. Plateau Peacocks came third with 15 points, while Imo Grasshoppers and Soof Omo Ogiefo placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Rivers Queens finished sixth, Defender Babes seventh, and Ekiti Queens — who failed to win any match — ended at the bottom in eighth place.
With Phase 1 now complete, the focus shifts to the decisive Phase 2 of the Ardova Handball Premier League, where champions will be crowned and teams will battle to avoid relegation.
