ANOCA Delegate Inspects Abuja Facilities Ahead of 2027 Africa School Games

Posted : 10 June 2026

Nigeria has advanced its preparations for the 2027 Africa School Games. The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa Coordination Commission met with the Local Organising Committee in Abuja. The crucial session was held at the ANOCA Secretariat. It served as the first major technical assessment since Nigeria secured the hosting rights last year.

LOC Chairman Lekan Abari presented a comprehensive 46-slide hosting blueprint during the meeting. His detailed master plan covered vital governance frameworks, sports logistics, and long-term legacy structures. The document specifically outlined key competition and non-competition venues across the capital city to ensure seamless operations.

The iconic Moshood Abiola National Stadium will serve as the main center for the opening ceremonies and athletics. Organizers selected the Transcorp Hilton Abuja to provide official accommodation for sports stakeholders and VIP delegates. Additionally, Jabi Lake will host the rowing and canoeing events. The University of Abuja and the Games Village will house the youth athletes.

The multi-sport event is scheduled to run from August 22 to September 4, 2027. Officials carefully chose this specific 14-day window. The decision factored in regional weather conditions, the academic calendar, and local political schedules to maximize nationwide fan turnout.

ANOCA Commission Chairman Joao Da Costa Manuel expressed immense satisfaction with the early level of local organization. He noted that the preparation standards are high. However, he urged the committee to maintain continuous monitoring to set a historic benchmark for future continental youth events.

The 2027 showpiece represents the second official edition of ANOCA’s flagship youth competition following the 2025 debut in Algeria. The upcoming games will feature more than 3,000 student-athletes aged between 14 and 16 years old. The young individuals will compete across 20 different sports. The delegation will conclude its assignment by conducting physical inspections of Package A, Package B, and the university facilities.
