Anna Morris Wins Third Gold as Great Britain Dominate Track Cycling Worlds

Posted : 18 October 2026

Great Britain's Anna Morris completed a remarkable hat-trick of gold medals at the Track Cycling World Championships in Shanghai on Saturday, October 17, 2026. The Welsh rider partnered Scotland's Erin Boothman to victory in the women's madison, adding another title to her successes in the team pursuit and omnium.

Morris, 31, and Boothman, 19, finished with 40 points to claim gold. France secured silver, while Japan took bronze in another competitive event at the championships.

The victory made Morris the first woman to win the team pursuit, omnium and madison at the same world championships since the women's madison was introduced in 2017. The achievement further strengthened her reputation as one of Britain's leading track cyclists.

Morris admitted that the scale of her accomplishment had not fully sunk in immediately after the race.

"I am quite speechless. It is going to take a while to sink in and reflect on it," she said.

The seven-time world champion also acknowledged the demands of competing across several events during a busy week. She said she now had time to reflect on her performances and enjoy the achievement.

Morris began her gold-medal run in the team pursuit on Thursday, joining Boothman, Josie Knight and Millie Couzens in Britain's victorious quartet. She followed that success by winning the women's omnium on Friday before completing her treble in the madison.

Britain also celebrated another gold medal on Saturday through Millie Couzens, who won the women's individual pursuit final against compatriot Josie Knight.

Couzens, 22, produced a time of four minutes 21.505 seconds to secure victory, finishing half a second ahead of Knight. She led from the opening lap and maintained her advantage throughout the race to claim her second gold medal of the championships.

The English rider said she had entered the competition without significant expectations and was surprised by the outcome.

"It is amazing, I am still a bit in shock to be honest. I had zero expectations going in," Couzens said.

Her victory added to Britain's growing medal collection and demonstrated the depth of the country's talent across different track cycling disciplines.

Great Britain finished Saturday leading the championships' medal table with six gold medals. Morris' achievement stood out as one of the defining performances of the competition, while Couzens' individual pursuit victory provided another major boost for the British team.
