Andrew Novak Claims First Individual PGA Tour Title With Five-Shot Mexico Open Victory

Posted : 02 November 2026

Andrew Novak secured his first individual PGA Tour championship after delivering an impressive performance to win the 2026 VidantaWorld Mexico Open by five strokes on Sunday.

The 31-year-old American finished the tournament at a record-breaking 25-under-par 259 after carding a final-round two-under 69 at Vidanta Vallarta. His victory marked his second PGA Tour success, following his triumph alongside Ben Griffin at the 2025 Zurich Classic.

Novak began the final round with a commanding six-shot advantage and maintained control despite a brief setback on the 10th hole, where he missed a short putt to record his first bogey since Friday.

After a steady opening stretch, he found another gear on the back nine, producing three consecutive birdies from the 12th hole. A 14-foot putt on the 13th and an impressive 44-foot birdie on the 14th helped him restore his five-shot cushion over Doug Ghim.

Ghim's bogey on the 14th widened the gap further, leaving Novak with a comfortable advantage as he approached the closing holes. Although he dropped another shot on the 17th, his final-hole par was enough to secure the championship and establish a new tournament scoring record.

Speaking after the victory, Novak expressed his satisfaction at finally winning an individual PGA Tour event. He acknowledged that the Zurich Classic success with Griffin had been special but said claiming a trophy on his own was an achievement he had been pursuing for a long time.

Novak's victory was built on two outstanding performances during the middle rounds. He recorded a 61 on Friday before following it with a 62 on Saturday, creating the substantial lead that ultimately proved decisive.

Steven Fisk and Norway's Kristoffer Ventura shared second place after finishing on 20-under-par 264. Ben Griffin and Canada's Mackenzie Hughes ended the tournament tied for fourth at 19 under.

Doug Ghim finished among the players tied for sixth after a difficult final hole, where a double bogey affected his position. Frenchman Matthieu Pavon, who started the day in second place, also slipped down the leaderboard following several bogeys on the back nine.

The triumph represents a significant milestone in Novak's career, giving him an individual PGA Tour title to complement his previous team success and confirming his breakthrough performance in Mexico.
