Amanda Serrano Eyes Christy Martin Knockout Record in Unified Featherweight Title Defense

Posted : 30 May 2026

Unified featherweight world champion Amanda Serrano will defend her WBA and WBO crowns against Germany's Cheyenne Hanson in El Paso, Texas. The iconic Puerto Rican southpaw steps into the ring with a stellar professional record of 48 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw. A stoppage victory this weekend will mark the 32nd knockout of her historic multi-division career.

That specific number would tie the legendary all-time female knockout record held by Hall of Famer Christy Martin since the early 2000s. Serrano currently sits just one stoppage away from matching the milestone on 31 knockouts. The champion admitted that tying and eventually breaking this durable benchmark remains her ultimate competitive ambition.

"I have to break it, I can feel it in my bones," Serrano stated during her pre-fight press conference. "But first we have to tie it Saturday night."

Standing in her path is the young and hungry Hanson, who boasts an impressive 76 percent knockout ratio. The German challenger enters the biggest platform of her career riding a dominant nine-fight winning streak. Hanson expressed immense excitement about trading heavy punches with a true legend of the sport outside of Europe.

The high-stakes event almost ran into financial hurdles due to the smaller market size in El Paso. MVP chief executive Nikisa Bidarian revealed that the promotion could not offer Serrano her standard high-profile fight purse. However, the unified champion voluntarily agreed to take a significant pay cut to ensure the event took place.

Bidarian praised the veteran fighter for prioritizing the growth of the sport and supporting the next generation. The undercard will also feature significant female matchups, including world champion Desley Robinson defending her middleweight titles against Mary Spencer. This deep fight card has generated massive excitement among local Texas boxing enthusiasts.

Serrano remains completely undefeated when competing at her optimal featherweight limit. Boxing analysts expect her superior footwork and calculated body punching to keep the aggressive challenger completely off-balance. A successful defense will push Serrano closer to a highly anticipated farewell rematch against undisputed rival Katie Taylor later this year.
