All Set for 12th Awa Ibraheem Junior Golf Competition in Lagos

Posted : 15 October 2025

The 2025 Awa Ibraheem Junior Open Golf Competition tees off on October 17 at the Ikeja Golf Club, featuring 120 young golfers.

Excitement is building ahead of the 12th edition of the Awa Ibraheem Junior Open Golf Competition, which is scheduled to begin on October 17, 2025, at the Ikeja Golf Club, Lagos. This year’s event will feature 120 young golfers competing across multiple age categories, with the addition of four international players adding a global touch to the highly anticipated junior tournament.

The World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR)-sanctioned event will see Nkous-Angy Nelson (12 years, Cameroon), Yvonne Dorm (11 years, Ghana), Paulo Eyram-Quarshe (15 years, Ghana), and Zanetor Dakudzu (14 years, Ghana) take on Nigeria’s top junior golfers.

According to Jide Bolaji, the competition’s Technical Lead, the event will be divided into four age categories. Players aged 6–8 years will compete over short holes, while those aged 9–11 years will play nine holes per round. Golfers aged 12–13 years and 14–16 years will each play 18 holes per round, completing two rounds on the first day.

Bolaji confirmed that all participants will arrive on Friday for accreditation, with the tournament taking place from Saturday to Sunday. He emphasized that the championship will follow the Rules of Golf as set by the R&A and USGA, alongside the local rules of the Ikeja Golf Club. Players and guardians are encouraged to familiarize themselves with these rules, which are printed on the back of each scorecard.

“This is a stroke play event, and all players are expected to follow the official draw for each round,” Bolaji stated. “In the event of a tie in any category, a sudden-death playoff beginning at hole one will determine the winner.”

The Awa Ibraheem Junior Open continues to promote youth participation in golf, providing a platform for emerging talents to showcase their skills while gaining exposure to international competition.
