Nigeria’s Under-18 women’s handball team played out a thrilling 31-31 draw against Benin Republic on Wednesday in their second group match at the Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship in Oran, Algeria.
Coach John Uzor’s side started brightly, showing more sharpness in attack and improved ball circulation compared to their opening defeat to Tunisia.
They led 17-15 at halftime but were undone by defensive lapses in the second half, which allowed the Beninoise to rally back.
Despite surrendering their halftime advantage, Nigeria showed greater resilience than in their first outing. The draw, while disappointing, represents an improvement and keeps their hopes alive as they look ahead to their next crucial group fixture.
