Nigeria’s Women’s U-18 handball team got off to a difficult start at the 2025 Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship, falling 50–25 to Tunisia in their opening match in Oran, Algeria.
Coach John Uzor’s team, which had earned three points after a walkover against Madagascar, struggled from the outset, conceding a 25–8 first-half deficit that proved insurmountable. Tunisia capitalized on Nigeria’s defensive lapses and turnovers to secure a comfortable victory.
The defeat stemmed from fragile defending, lack of confidence in attack, multiple missed scoring opportunities, and errors in passing and substitutions, which led to several two-minute suspensions and gave Tunisia numerical advantages at critical stages.
Despite the heavy loss, Nigeria now turns their focus to their next match against Benin Republic, seeking to restore confidence and get their campaign back on track.
