Africa Men Handball Cup of Nations: Nigeria defeats Congo in placement match

Team Nigeria faced a tough battle, securing a hard-fought victory against Congo with a scoreline of 27-26 in a placement match at the ongoing Africa Men Handball Cup of Nations in Egypt.


The Golden Arrows commenced the match with unwavering determination, but they encountered a resilient Congo side that outperformed them in the first half, leading 16-14.


In the second half, Coach Rafiu Salami's team exhibited resilience, matching up against the Congolese side in an intense contest. The match remained neck-and-neck until the final 20 seconds when the score stood at 26-26. Nigeria seized a fast-break opportunity, scoring the penultimate goal to clinch the victory at 27-26.


Hakeem Salami, playing in the center-back position, received the man of the match award for his standout performance.


With this win, Nigeria advances to another placement match against Libya, aiming to secure a higher position in the tournament rankings.


Despite facing initial setbacks with two losses, Team Nigeria showcased their determination and bounced back by winning the last two matches, demonstrating their resilience and competitive spirit in the competition.
