The draw for the 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships has been officially released. The 48 best men’s and women’s teams in the world now know their opponents for this 15th edition, scheduled from November 14 to 23, 2025 — the largest ever organized in the Southern Hemisphere.
Africa will have strong representation, with six teams determined to make their mark on Australian sand. For the first time, Australia will host the championship in Adelaide, featuring ten days of intense competition.
Each category (men and women) consists of 48 teams divided into 12 groups of four. The top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-place teams, will advance directly to the round of 16. The remaining third-place teams will compete in a “lucky loser” round to secure a place in the main draw. A total of 216 matches — 108 per category — will be played in a direct elimination format until the finals.
Women’s Competition:
Three African nations — Nigeria, Mozambique, and Egypt — will participate in the women’s category, each placed in challenging groups against some of the world’s strongest pairs.
Men’s Competition:
Three African men’s teams — Togo, Morocco, and Benin — will also compete against the world’s elite.
Although African representation is limited, these teams reflect the rapid progress of beach volleyball on the continent. From Lagos to Lomé, Maputo to Cairo, national federations have invested in competitions and training programs to elevate the level of play.
For African teams, the World Championships are not only a competition but also a continental showcase. Their performance will be closely monitored by the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB), which aims to measure progress and strengthen the sport’s development across Africa.
Togo, Nigeria, Benin, Morocco, Mozambique, and Egypt carry the continent’s ambitions, seeking experience and exposure against the world’s elite, with the next Olympic qualifications in mind.
From November 14 to 23, 2025, the sands of Adelaide will host 216 matches over ten days, blending sport, music, and culture. While favorites include Brazil, the USA, Germany, and Norway, emerging nations — especially from Africa and Asia — will look to defy expectations and create memorable upsets.
