Adrien Saddier Claims First DP World Tour Title

Posted : 29 June 2025

French golfer Adrien Saddier delivered a career-defining performance at the Italian Open, capturing his first DP World Tour title in dramatic fashion. Making his 200th appearance on the tour, Saddier surged past the competition with a spectacular back-nine birdie run to seal a two-shot victory and book his place at The Open.

Adrien Saddier's breakthrough moment came at Argentario Golf Club, where he produced a flawless back-nine performance to secure his maiden DP World Tour title. The 33-year-old Frenchman closed with an impressive six-under-par 66, finishing the tournament at 14 under and capping his milestone 200th appearance in style. His closing round was marked by five birdies in the final stretch, which propelled him ahead of third-round leader and compatriot Martin Couvra.

Saddier started the day just one shot off the pace but slipped behind early, despite an early birdie on the second hole. Bogeys on the fourth and eighth left him three shots adrift at the turn, casting doubt over his chances. However, a remarkable rally followed. A birdie on the 10th hole from 13 feet sparked a run of momentum. He followed that up with another from 18 feet on the 11th and kept his momentum alive with a crucial par save on the 12th.

The highlight of the round came at the par-four 13th when Saddier holed a dramatic 22-foot birdie putt that teetered on the lip before finally dropping, drawing gasps from the crowd. That birdie brought him into a share of the lead. He seized it outright on the 14th with a pinpoint approach shot that left a tap-in for birdie. A decisive two-shot swing occurred on the 16th hole, as Saddier birdied from seven feet while Couvra faltered with a bogey, giving Saddier a comfortable three-shot lead with two holes to play.

Saddier held his nerve over the final stretch, parring both the 17th and 18th holes to clinch the victory. His emotional triumph not only earned him his first title but also qualification for The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush. Martin Couvra, who finished at 12 under following a final-round 69, claimed second place and now leads the European Swing Ranking. Scotland’s Calum Hill and England’s Dan Bradbury shared third place at 10 under par.

Saddier’s win was made all the more poignant by his reflections afterward. After overcoming illness earlier in the European Swing, he credited his family for their support throughout his journey. “It’s taken so much work to be able to do this. I’m just grateful,” he said, thanking his father, mother, and wife for their roles in his path to success. “I just said to myself: stay in your own zone, keep focused, make the putts—and I did.”
