Adam Scott recently described his meeting with PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan and President Donald Trump as a "positive" step towards reuniting the PGA and LIV Golf. Speaking from the PGA Genesis Invitational, Scott emphasized that Trump’s deep appreciation for golf and his understanding of the challenges in the professional game could help resolve the ongoing divide between the two tours.
LIV Golf, which began in 2022, caused a rift when top players left the PGA to join the new league, prompting the PGA to ban them from their events, making major tournaments the only opportunity for both groups to compete together.
The PGA and Saudi-backed LIV Golf have been in talks since June 2023, with no deal finalized despite initial hopes for a resolution. Scott acknowledged the complications surrounding the potential Saudi investment in U.S. golf but expressed optimism that Trump’s involvement could accelerate the process.
He noted that Trump’s relationships, including his ties with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, could play a crucial role in bringing about a deal. Scott believes Trump’s passion for the game and his connections could help alleviate some of the challenges in reaching an agreement.
Scott further explained that while some complexities, such as anti-trust concerns, have delayed progress, Trump’s influence could help clear obstacles and move the talks forward more swiftly. He believes that Trump, with his understanding of golf and his involvement in the sport’s business side, could offer the necessary push to finalize an agreement.
As both Scott and Tiger Woods serve on the PGA Tour Enterprises board, they see Trump’s potential involvement as a key factor in bridging the gap between the two competing golf factions.
