The third edition of the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Premier Volleyball League continued to gather momentum on Tuesday at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Abuja, with teams delivering exciting performances across the men's and women's categories.
The highlight of Day Two was a thrilling women's clash between Excelsior and Anambra Queens, which kept spectators on the edge of their seats in a fiercely contested five-set encounter.
Both sides displayed remarkable determination and resilience as they traded points throughout a marathon contest that stretched over five sets before Anambra Queens emerged victorious 3-2.
Excelsior claimed the opening set 25-21, but Anambra Queens responded strongly to take the second set 25-20. Excelsior regained the advantage with a 25-22 win in the third set before Anambra Queens levelled matters again by edging the fourth set 25-23.
With the contest finely poised, the deciding fifth set produced more drama as Anambra Queens held their nerve to secure a hard-fought 16-14 victory and complete the comeback.
In another women's fixture, Nigeria Customs Service recorded a comfortable straight-set win over VIP & Partner, triumphing 25-20, 25-11 and 25-20.
CNS Spikers were equally dominant, overpowering Fire Service 3-0 with set scores of 25-8, 25-15 and 25-14.
In the men's category, NSCDC survived a spirited fightback from Ajase Ipo to claim a dramatic 3-2 victory.
NSCDC looked set for a routine win after taking the opening two sets 25-16 and 25-23. However, Ajase Ipo responded impressively, winning the third and fourth sets 25-21 and 25-21 respectively to force a decider.
The final set was a tense affair, with both teams creating match-winning opportunities before NSCDC eventually sealed a 19-17 victory.
COAS Spikers maintained their impressive form with a convincing 3-0 triumph over Offa, recording set scores of 25-15, 25-11 and 25-20.
Defence Spikers also secured maximum points after defeating Life Camp VC 3-1. They won the first set 25-18, lost the second 25-27, but bounced back to take the remaining sets 25-17 and 30-28.
The league continues on Wednesday with teams battling for crucial victories as the competition intensifies in Abuja.
With multiple teams securing hard-fought victories on Day Two, the tournament is positioning itself as a showcase of elite physical endurance and tactical brilliance. Volleyball fans can expect even higher stakes as the teams settle into their group campaigns and eye the ultimate championship prizes.
