Scrabblemania 3.0, held at the Boulevard Palace in Sinkor, Monrovia, proved to be more than just a tournament—it was a statement about the rise of Scrabble talent and ambition across Africa. At the forefront was Nigeria’s Abdulmumin Jimoh, whose stellar performance saw him finish with 26 wins, 4 losses, and a commanding +2612 spread, asserting dominance from the opening round. His victory reflected not just individual brilliance but also the increasing professionalism and competitiveness of African Scrabble.
The tournament brought together top players from across the continent, including Ghanaian Charles Tachie Menson, Nigerian Cyriel Umebiye, and Liberia’s Sherif Malek, who thrilled the local crowd with a fifth-place finish. Despite fierce competition, Jimoh’s precision and strategic mastery ensured he controlled the board, while second-place Lukeman Owolabi demonstrated consistency even as Jimoh pulled ahead.
The event also highlighted the camaraderie and mentorship shaping the sport, with Jimoh praising leaders such as PANASA President Adekoyejo Adegbesan and NASAL President Lester Morris for their roles in developing African Scrabble.
Scrabblemania 3.0 also served as a precursor to the 2026 African Scrabble Championship, confirming Monrovia’s emergence as a continental hub for the game. Jimoh, a key member of Team Nigeria that recently won Best Country at the World Championship in Accra, emphasized that the tournament was not an endpoint but a stepping stone toward future competitions.
With Africa’s Scrabble ecosystem maturing rapidly, the event showcased not only the skill and determination of its players but also the organizational capacity of its host nation. For Jimoh, the victory symbolized both personal achievement and the bright future of African Scrabble.
