Lagos will once again take centre stage in Africa’s competitive Scrabble scene as the fourth edition of Scrabble Mania returns with heightened stakes, global ranking points, and a $700 top prize.

Scheduled for May 16–17, 2026, at the Chevron Recreation Centre in Gbagada, the two-day tournament organised by Mind Brilliance Inc. in partnership with the Nigeria Scrabble Federation will attract a blend of elite tacticians and ambitious newcomers from across Nigeria and beyond.

This year’s edition introduces a clear competitive split, with Division A reserved for players rated 1400 and above, while Division B provides a platform for rising talents looking to test themselves at a higher level.

Players will navigate a demanding 21-round schedule under a 20-minute time control, a format designed to reward consistency, mental endurance, and sharp decision-making under pressure.

In line with global standards, the competition will be played using the CSW24 lexicon, with results recognised by the World English-Language Scrabble Players Association (WESPA), the Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA), and the Nigeria Scrabble Federation, further cementing its status as a ranking event of international relevance.

Entry fees are set at ₦40,000 for Division A and ₦20,000 for Division B, reflecting the tournament’s premium positioning within the African Scrabble calendar.

Beyond the prize money, Scrabble Mania 4.0 represents a critical battleground for ranking points and bragging rights, as players look to establish or reinforce their standing on both continental and global ladders.

The previous edition, held in Monrovia, Liberia, saw Abdulmumin Jimoh deliver a commanding performance, finishing with 26 wins, four losses, and an outstanding +2612 spread to claim the title.

As the registration deadline of May 13 approaches, anticipation continues to build for what promises to be a fiercely contested intellectual duel in Nigeria’s commercial capital.

The event stands as a testament to the growing popularity and professionalization of the sport within the region. With elite competition and significant rewards on the line, Scrabble Mania 4.0 is set to be a landmark fixture for enthusiasts and masters alike.
