The Captain of the Kwara Amputee Football Team, Lekan Oyeleke, has commended his teammates for their impressive performance despite a 4–1 defeat to Team Lagos.
Speaking after the match, Oyeleke praised the resilience and determination of the players, noting that the team was newly assembled and had shown great promise against a more experienced side.
He explained that the squad was put together within three months through scouting across Kwara State, describing their performance against players of national team standard as remarkable.
Oyeleke expressed pride in the team’s ability to score against a strong Lagos side, saying the goal was a significant achievement and a morale booster for the players.
Despite the loss, the captain maintained optimism ahead of their next fixture against Plateau State, expressing confidence that the team would improve and secure victory to contend for a third-place finish.
Oyeleke also appreciated the support of the Kwara State Government, particularly Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for providing the platform for the team to participate in the competition.
He acknowledged the contributions of the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Mogaji, as well as the technical crew and management team for their commitment and support.
The captain’s encouraging words highlight the growth and potential of Para sports within Kwara State. As the team prepares for their upcoming match against Plateau State, the focus remains on building upon this foundation to secure a podium finish and honor the state's investment in their development.
