38 teams battle for honours as 6th President Beach Volleyball serves off

An unprecedented number of 38 teams have registered their participation as the sixth edition of the President Beach Volleyball Tournament kicked off in Kaduna on Tuesday, February 17, 2025.


The teams, featuring both senior and U-17 male and female categories, came from all parts of Nigeria to compete in this highly competitive tournament, which will boost Nigeria's chances ahead of the continental event coming up later this year.


The teams arrived in Kaduna on February 16, ahead of the technical session held on the 17th at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, before heading to the beach courts of the Murtala Mohammed Square multipurpose sports complex for the tournament's official kickoff on the same day.


In an interview with journalists on the sidelines of the colorful opening ceremony, the Technical Director of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Mr. Martin Melandi, expressed his excitement over the increase in the number of teams at this edition.


He mentioned that the top three teams in all categories will be going home with cash prizes for their efforts.


Melandi also noted that while the tournament was initially planned to last longer, it will now conclude on Friday to allow players representing their various states in the National Sports Festival (NSF) and Zonal Eliminations time to travel back to their stations.


Also speaking, DCP Stephen Hasso (Rtd) said he was impressed by the quality of players at this edition.


He stated that the President Beach Volleyball Tournament has, over the years, developed talents for the country.


Hasso, who is also a board member of the NVBF, explained that just recently, in Adamawa State, a Beach Volleyball Open was held, which attracted several dignitaries, including the Paramount Ruler of Bachama.


The sixth edition of the President Beach Volleyball Tournament will end on Friday.
