Three Nigerians have successfully qualified for the elite level at the just-concluded FIVB Level 3 Coaching Course in Abuja, out of 26 candidates from seven countries.
This was disclosed on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, by the Technical Director of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Martin Melandi.
"We had a Level 3 FIVB coaching course here in Abuja. There were 26 candidates who participated from seven countries," he said.
Giving a breakdown, he stated that the participants included 13 candidates from Ghana, seven from Nigeria, two from India, and one from Cameroon.
Others included one each from Zambia, Gambia, and Kenya, making a total of 26 participants.
He revealed that two females were among the participants.
According to him, the course ran from May 4 to 11, and at the end of the course, “we were able to have five Nigerians certified as Level 3 FIVB coaches.”
"The coaches were certified as Level 3 FIVB coaches. Level 3 is the highest coaching certification, allowing coaches to become international instructors and serve as consultants or coaches globally.
“This is a major achievement, and Nigeria has made history by hosting this course on behalf of Africa,” he said.
He explained that top coaches served as instructors, including Coach Peter from Germany, while the assistant instructor was Coach Atangana from Cameroon.
“They were very thorough in both the theory and practical aspects of the course. For the theory, they made presentations on various topics provided before the course. During the practicals, participants were required to demonstrate how to train players in specific roles of the game. Based on these assessments, 11 participants were certified,” he explained.
With this outcome, the NVBF President, Engineer Musa Nimrod, has recorded another milestone.
