2026 WTT Contender: Odo storms into quarter-finals as Asian stars dominate Lagos

Japan’s Satsuki Odo delivered one of the most dominant performances of the day to book a place in the Women’s Singles quarter-finals at the ongoing 2026 WTT Contender Lagos tournament.

The competition, taking place at the Sir Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, has continued to witness impressive displays from some of the world’s top table tennis players.

Odo outclassed Nigeria’s Bose Odusanya in straight sets, cruising to an emphatic 3-0 victory with scores of 11-5, 11-2, and 11-3.

In another women’s singles clash, Portugal’s Jieni Shao comfortably defeated India’s Sutirtha Mukherjee to progress into the last eight.

The left-handed Portuguese star sealed a 3-0 win after taking the sets 11-8, 11-5, and 11-6.

In the men’s singles category, South Korea’s Kim Gaon survived a difficult test against Netherlands’ Milo de Boer to secure qualification for the quarter-finals.

Kim claimed a straight-sets victory after edging tight exchanges 11-9, 12-10, 11-8, and 13-11.

Compatriot Lim Jonghoon also maintained South Korea’s impressive run at the tournament with a commanding win over Nigeria’s Olajide Omotayo.

Jonghoon defeated the Nigerian in straight sets, winning 11-9, 11-3, and 11-8 to advance to the next round.

Meanwhile, India’s Thakker Manav and Manush Shah progressed to the Men’s Doubles quarter-finals after overcoming Nigeria’s AbdulFatai Abdulbasit and Matthew Fabunmi.

The Indian duo controlled the encounter from start to finish, recording a 3-0 victory with set scores of 11-9, 11-5, and 11-5.

The tournament has continued to attract elite players from across the globe, with intense battles expected as the race for titles enters the decisive stages.

The exceptional standard of play on display underscores the truly global profile of the championship as continental heavyweights continue to set the pace. With domestic hopes fading following tough exits, the tournament path clears for an explosive series of intercontinental matchups.
