The Nigeria Police Force men's volleyball team has expressed confidence in its ability to make a strong impact at the ongoing third edition of the Customs Comptroller General Premier Volleyball League in Abuja, despite suffering an earlier defeat in the competition.
Head coach Taiwo Oladipupo reaffirmed his side's determination after securing a convincing 3-1 victory over Ajase Ipo Volleyball Club on Wednesday at the Indoor Hall of the National Stadium, Abuja.
According to Oladipupo, the team remains focused on taking each match as it comes in the race for honours.
"We are approaching the competition one game at a time. This is a league format and we still have several matches to play. Although we have lost one game, it does not change our objectives," he said.
The coach acknowledged the quality of the team that defeated the Police Force, describing the loss as a learning experience rather than a setback.
In Wednesday's men's fixtures, Nigeria Police defeated Ajase Ipo VC 3-1. The encounter ended 25-19, 25-22, 25-23, and 25-15 in favour of the Police side.
Elsewhere, CNS Spikers delivered a dominant performance to overcome Sunshine Spikers 3-0, winning 25-15, 25-15, and 25-17.
Kano Pillars also recorded a straight-sets victory, defeating Offa VC 25-15, 25-17, and 25-23.
In the women's category, Fire Service edged Anambra Queens in a thrilling five-set contest. The match ended 26-24, 23-25, 20-25, 25-14, and 15-8.
COAS Spikers continued their impressive run with a commanding 3-0 victory over Life Camp VC, claiming the sets 25-11, 25-14, and 25-16.
The highlight of the women's fixtures saw Customs overcome NSCDC 3-1 in an entertaining four-set battle. Customs won the first two sets 25-17 and 25-13 before NSCDC responded with a 25-20 third-set victory. Customs sealed the contest by taking the fourth set 25-18.
Maryam Ibrahim of Customs was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match for her outstanding contribution.
Action at the league is scheduled to continue on Thursday, with Day Four matches set to commence at 8:00 a.m. at the Indoor Hall of the National Stadium, Abuja.
The competitive spirit displayed across both categories highlights the growing intensity of the tournament as teams vie for top placement.
