COAS Spikers continued their flawless campaign in the ongoing 2026 National Premier Volleyball League after overcoming a spirited Nigeria Correctional Service side 3-1 to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches.
The thrilling contest at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, ended 25-22, 28-26, 23-25, 25-23 in favour of the Army team.
COAS Spikers made a strong start by taking the opening set 25-22 before edging a fiercely contested second set 28-26 to move within one set of victory.
Nigeria Correctional Service responded with determination, claiming the third set 25-23 to keep their hopes alive.
However, the league leaders held their nerve in the fourth set, sealing a 25-23 victory to complete a hard-earned 3-1 triumph and preserve their unbeaten record.
Reacting after the match, COAS Spikers Head Coach, Elishama Elam, described the encounter as one of the toughest his side has faced in the competition.
"It was a very interesting and tough match.
"I thank God for the victory because everybody knows that the Correctional Service team is a good side.
"If you look at every department of their game, they are excellent.
"I have no regrets that the organisers scheduled the match as the final game of the day because it was worthy of that billing," he said.
Elam credited his players' resilience, determination, and commitment for securing the important victory.
Elsewhere in the men's competition, Defence Spikers defeated Kano Pillars 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-20, 25-13), while CNS Spikers also recorded a 3-1 victory over Life Camp Volleyball Club with set scores of 25-17, 17-25, 25-16, and 25-22.
Nigeria Police Force Volleyball Club overcame Offa Volleyball Club 3-1 (25-18, 25-22, 22-25, 25-23), Nigeria Customs Service swept aside UCEM Volleyball Club 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-23), while Ajase Ipo Volleyball Club defeated Sunshine Spikers 3-0 (25-20, 28-26, 25-13).
In the women's category, NAF Rockets defeated Kada Emeralds 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-19), while Nigeria Customs Service cruised past Anambra Queens 3-0 with scores of 25-8, 25-15, and 25-8.
COAS Spikers also claimed a straight-sets victory over VIP and Partners Volleyball Club, winning 25-19, 27-25, and 25-23.
CNS Spikers defeated Olalomi Royal Angels 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-15), NSCDC Volleyball Club beat Life Camp Volleyball Club 3-1 (25-17, 25-11, 20-25, 25-14), while Benue Queens secured a 3-0 victory over Excelsior Volleyball Club with scores of 25-22, 29-27, and 25-19.
The 2026 National Premier Volleyball League, organised by the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), began on June 13 and will conclude on June 28 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
The highly competitive fixtures across both the men's and women's categories highlight the growing intensity of the tournament as it heads toward its final days. COAS Spikers remain the team to beat, but their latest test proves that the race for the championship title remains wide open. Fans can expect more high-stakes action in Abuja as the teams push for ultimate glory.
