Nigeria’s weightlifter, Taiwo Liadi, has expressed joy and gratitude after winning three gold medals at the African Senior Weightlifting Championship in Ismailia, Egypt, describing the achievement as one of the proudest moments of her career.
Competing in the women’s 77kg category, Liadi finished with a total lift of 243kg to secure the win ahead of Egypt’s Rofida Fathi Taha, who recorded 227kg, while Tunisia’s Eva Hosny settled for bronze with 199kg.
Reacting to her performance, the Nigerian star said her success was made possible through faith, hard work, and the support of those who stood by her throughout the competition.
“I attribute all glory to God. Achieving three gold medals fills me with pride, particularly for my fatherland. I am proud of the person I have become. I congratulate myself on this accomplishment,” Liadi said.
She also appreciated the President of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, Dr. Ibrahim Abdul, and members of the federation’s board for their encouragement and commitment to the growth of weightlifting in the country.
Liadi further thanked the Federal Government for creating an enabling environment for Nigerian athletes to excel internationally. She specifically acknowledged the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, and the Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, for their support towards the team’s participation at the championship.
The remarkable performance by Taiwo Liadi cements her position as a leading figure in African weightlifting and brings significant honor to Nigeria on the continental stage. This victory highlights the effectiveness of the current sports administration in fostering elite talent and securing podium finishes at major international events.
