2026 African Cycling Championships: Nigeria strengthens continental dominance with massive medal haul

Team Nigeria has continued to assert its growing status as a cycling powerhouse after delivering a remarkable performance at the ongoing 2026 Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) Para-Track and Track African Championships in Abuja.

Competing before an enthusiastic home crowd at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome, Nigerian cyclists dazzled with exceptional speed, endurance, and tactical brilliance to move to the top of the medals table after two days of competition.

Nigeria currently leads the standings with an impressive 16 medals made up of 9 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze medals, placing the host nation ahead of strong cycling countries such as Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, and Algeria.

Egypt occupies second place with 14 medals, while Kenya follows in third position with 9 medals. South Africa and Algeria complete the top five on the medals standings.

The championship has brought together elite cyclists from across Africa, with over 100 athletes from eight countries competing for continental honors and qualification opportunities.

Home supporters at the velodrome have been treated to thrilling performances from Nigerian riders, whose consistency and determination have drawn admiration throughout the event.
