The 2025 Osun Military Paramilitary Games entered its second day with a burst of energy and intense competition as officers from various security and paramilitary agencies showcased their strength, skill, and sportsmanship at Fountain University, Osogbo.
Field events dominated the day’s schedule, with captivating performances in shot put, discus, and javelin, alongside thrilling moments in the tug of war preliminaries.
The women’s shot put set the tone for the day. Adejoke Olarenwaju of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) delivered a commanding throw of 7.24 meters, earning gold. Close behind, Omolade Akanji of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) claimed silver with 7.12 meters, while Omolola Obaniyi of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) secured bronze.
In the men’s shot put, Abduraheem Taoheed of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) impressed with a throw of 13.25 meters, taking gold. Adesina Samuel (NDLEA) earned silver at 10.00 meters, and Aderemi Basit (NSCDC) claimed bronze with 9.40 meters, highlighting FRSC’s growing dominance in field events.
The women’s javelin saw Amusan Victoria of NPF secure gold with an impressive 16.11 meters, followed by Omolade Akanji (NSCDC) with 14.63 meters for silver, and Boluwatife Awogbindin (Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS) with 12.60 meters for bronze.
In the men’s javelin, Taoheed Abduraheem (FRSC) again excelled, claiming gold with a throw of 41.00 meters. Omoniyi Omoyeni (NPF) took silver at 35.70 meters, and Lawal Shamsudeen (NIS) secured bronze with 29.38 meters.
The discus events also thrilled spectators. In the women’s category, Omolola Obaniyi (NDLEA) bounced back from her earlier bronze to win gold with 16.30 meters, while Adejoke Olarenwaju (NPF) earned silver at 16.16 meters, and Adeola Olarenwaju (NIS) took bronze with 14.51 meters.
In the men’s discus, Omoniyi Omoyeni (NPF) claimed gold with 37.10 meters, Taoheed Abduraheem (FRSC) won silver, and Adesina Samuel (NDLEA) earned bronze at 26.70 meters.
The tug of war semifinals drew roaring crowds, setting the stage for an electrifying final. In the men’s category, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) will face Nigeria Police Force (NPF), while the women’s final features a showdown between NPF and NIS, promising displays of strength, teamwork, and strategy.
As the Games continue, attention now turns to volleyball, scheduled for Thursday at the Osogbo City Stadium, where teams will compete for court supremacy.
The Osun Military Paramilitary Games, bringing together officers from agencies including the NPF, NSCDC, FRSC, NDLEA, NIS, and others, have become a symbol of unity, discipline, and friendly rivalry among Nigeria’s uniformed services.
