2025 NYG: Team Delta Shines as Handball Action Kicks Off

Host state Team Delta got off to a flying start in the handball event at the 2025 National Youth Games (NYG) in Asaba, recording victories in both the men’s and women’s categories on Day 1.

 

In the men’s division, Team Delta secured an emphatic 29–18 (13–08) win over Kwara, dominating the match from start to finish with sharp attacking play and resolute defending that left their opponents chasing shadows.

 

Elsewhere in the male category, Niger State also impressed with an 18–13 (09–05) victory over Bayelsa, rounding off a competitive opening day in the boys’ division.

 

The women’s division also produced thrilling encounters. Imo State edged Kaduna 13–10 (04–06) in a tightly contested match, while the hosts, Delta, once again delighted their fans with a commanding 19–10 (09–03) win against Lagos.

 

Abia staged a late push to overcome Ondo 15–13 (05–05), while Adamawa and Edo settled for a dramatic 18–18 (08–09) draw in what was arguably the most fiercely fought contest of the day.
