The Rivers Whales Teqball team clinched two gold, two silver, and two bronze medals in the Teqball event at the National Sports Festival held at the Remo Sports Complex in Ikenne, Ogun State.
Team Rivers clearly dominated the women’s event as Gladys Abasi defeated Salau Rashidat of Delta State 2-1 in the Women’s Singles final on Monday, May 26th.
Abasi, alongside teammate Ibinabo Georgewill, ensured Rivers State secured another gold medal in the Women’s Doubles event after beating Edo State’s duo, Eke Success and Obazee Margaret, in the final.
Nigeria’s number two, Funsho Funto of Rivers State, was beaten 0-2 by Nigeria’s number one, Oyemade Victor of Delta State, in the Men’s Singles final in a keenly contested battle.
Rivers duo Gladys Abasi and Austin Efosa Obosa also took silver in the Mixed Doubles final, losing 0-2 to Team Delta.
Meanwhile, Ibinabo Georgewill claimed a bronze medal in the Women’s Singles third-place game, beating Eke Success of Edo State 2-0.
Austin Efosa and Funsho Funto also secured another bronze medal for Rivers State with a 2-0 victory over Edo State in the Men’s Doubles third-place match.
Teqball is featured as a demonstration sport for the second time at the Festival. Hosts Ogun, Edo, Delta, and Rivers State all competed in the Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles categories of the event.
