2025 NSF: MOC promises to clamp down more on drug cheats

There is no place for drug cheats in Nigerian Sports as the National Sports Commission NSC, would continue to fish out drug cheats in the nations sports and ensure they are dealt with in line with the best global practice.

 

The Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee of the 22nd National Sports Festival tagged Gateway Games OGUN 2024, Bukola Olapade stated this during a media briefing with journalists attending the biennial National sports fiesta in Abeokuta.

 

Olopade said that the National Sports Commission was keen on weeding out drug cheats from Nigerian sports saying the body would continue to name and shame such athletes to serve as deterrent to such athletes and those who might want to engage in the illicit trade.

 

Olopade who is also the Director General of the National Sports Commission said the body was already working in tandem with several organizations to ensure that Nigerian athletes compete in a free and fair atmosphere devoid of drug cheats.

 

According to him, the nation had immense talents whose future were bright but some due to anxiety to excel engaged in such acts that ultimately destroyed their careers asserting that the NSC was committed to the development of the nations sports sector through a conscientious programme that would put the nation back among the leaders in  global sports.

 

Olopade also revealed that over nine thousand athletes and officials were currently in Abeokuta and other centers for the National sports Festival while the host state was currently feeding over eleven thousand athletes, officials and some gate crashers at the games.

 

The former Ogun State Commissioner for Sports also averred that to ensure that only those accredited for the games enjoyed the meals prepared for the athletes and officials the NSC had decided to fish out the gate crashers at the sports village with immediate effect.

 

Meanwhile Swimming and Tennis events commences on Wednesday at the MKO Abiola International Stadium Abeokuta with Volleyball spiking off at the Alake sports Center in Abeokuta while Golf tees off at the Abeokuta Golf Club .
