2025 ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup: Nigeria match against England abandoned

Nigeria’s opening Super Six clash with England at the 2025 ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia was abandoned on Saturday due to incessant rain.  


The International Cricket Council confirmed the development in a statement.  


“The official word is in – the game has been abandoned,” the ICC wrote.  


“This outcome was expected, given the overnight rain and the persistent drizzle since the morning. With this result, both teams collect one point each to kickstart their Super Six campaign.”  


This marks the second time the Junior Female Yellow Greens have had a match called off due to rain at the tournament, following their abandoned group opener against Samoa.  


Nigeria qualified for the Super Six as Group C runners-up behind South Africa after stunning the test-playing nation New Zealand in what was considered the tournament’s biggest upset.  


Assistant coach Blessing Etim expressed confidence in the team’s ability to compete against higher-ranked opponents in the Super Six.  


“Qualifying for the Super Six is not by luck; it is by hard work, and hard work pays,” Etim said.  


“We all know the standard of our players. They are capable, resilient, strong fighters, and we believe in them. All they need is our support and encouragement.”  


The 25th-ranked Nigerians, led by standout player Piety Lucky, will face 10th-ranked Ireland in their next Super Six fixture on Wednesday at the YSD UKM Oval in Bangi.
