With the interest of 21 clubs already confirmed ahead of the continental tournament, Nigeria has set a new record for attracting the highest number of teams to the African Women's Club Volleyball Championship.
The President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Engineer Musa Nimrod, expressed this during the closing ceremony of the President Beach Volleyball Championship at Murtala Mohammed Square in Kaduna.
"Already, we have 21 clubs, which is a significant number. We have broken the record. We hope all of them will participate, but regardless, we have already set a new record," he said.
According to him, Nigeria's representatives, the Nigerian Customs team, are already in camp, preparing for the start of the competition on April 1, 2025.
"The Customs team and other teams will remain in camp as we prepare for the African Women's Club Championship on April 1.
"We are aware of this, and we will do our best to ensure proper preparations.
"I have been informed that the Customs team is returning to camp to continue training ahead of the tournament," he added.
Regarding the 2025 President Beach Volleyball Championship, he described the event as a great success.
"First and foremost, we want to thank the Kaduna State Government for allowing us to use the Murtala Square facility.
"This has also helped attract a large crowd to the competition.
"Secondly, we believe in grassroots development. We visited schools to encourage student participation.
"A lot of schools are already looking forward to next year's President’s Cup, where they will compete in the U-17 category, which is very encouraging," he said.
He further added, "Thirdly, almost all volleyball players in Nigeria now realize that our female team is currently ranked number one in Africa.
"Our players, Esther and Pamela, have traveled around the world, inspiring others who now aspire to follow in their footsteps.
"This is a great improvement," he noted.
Speaking on other NVBF activities, he emphasized Nigeria's commitment to qualifying for next year’s Olympic Youth Games.
"Take note that in 2026, Africa will host the Olympic Youth Games in Senegal, and Nigeria is determined to secure a qualification ticket.
"As the number one ranked female team in Africa, we are fully focused on competing in Senegal in 2026," he concluded.
