According to Funsho Usman, Secretary-General of the NSSF, the championship will feature 30 students from each of Nigeria’s six geo-political zones, with public and private schools both represented.
“We have so far registered 57 students as of this morning,” Usman said on Monday, ahead of the opening events.
The 2025 edition marks a significant step forward in inclusivity and talent development. The tournament is being organized in collaboration with Dynaspro Sports Promotion, known for pioneering private inter-school swimming events, and supported by the Nigeria Aquatic Federation.
“This initiative is designed to discover and nurture emerging swimming talents capable of representing Nigeria on the international stage,” Usman noted.
He added that the competition was expanded to include private schools due to growing interest among students and notable performances at the recent 22nd National Sports Festival in Ogun, where several student swimmers won medals.
“With the technical input of the Nigeria Aquatic Federation and the energy brought by Dynaspro, we’re anticipating record-breaking performances and the rise of new swimming stars,” he said.
All registrations were scheduled to close by the end of Monday, June 23, with the finals taking place on Wednesday, June 25. Top performers will receive medals and prizes, both individually and as part of their team representation.
The event is expected to not only boost grassroots sports development but also strengthen the talent pipeline for Nigeria’s future aquatic athletes.
