The organisers of the 5th Racing 10s Rugby Tournament have confirmed the participation of 13 teams in the 2025 edition of the event.
Emmanuel Ayewe, manager of Racing Rugby Football Club—the tournament's organisers—made the announcement on Tuesday. The annual tournament will take place at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, on August 2, 2025.
Ayewe revealed that the 2025 edition will include several side attractions designed to entertain fans and enhance the overall experience of the tournament.
He emphasized that beyond promoting rugby development, the event aims to inspire the next generation of players across Nigeria and to foster wider participation in the sport.
“The competition will strengthen community bonds and elevate rugby’s profile, promoting fair play and World Rugby standards,” Ayewe stated.
The tournament will feature both 7s and 15s rugby formats, with teams competing across multiple categories.
Participating teams include Police Rugby, Cowrie Rugby, Kings Rugby, Warri Rugby, and AJ Sharks. Host club Racing RFC and teams from Edo State will also be represented.
Female teams taking part include Cowrie Female, AJ Sharks 1 and 2, and Edo Female. Academy sides such as Wolverines Rugby Academy and Racing Academy will also participate.
Veteran sides like Frank Johnson and new entrants Team Suraju are also expected to compete in the tournament.
Ayewe added that the event is being organised in collaboration with the Nigerian Rugby Referee Association.
