Reigning world champion Max Verstappen is set to arrive late to the Miami Grand Prix weekend as he awaits the arrival of his first child. The Red Bull Racing team confirmed that Verstappen will miss Thursday's media and promotional obligations but will be present at the track on Friday in time for practice sessions.
In a statement, Red Bull explained that the Dutch driver’s absence on Thursday is due to the imminent birth of his baby. The team assured fans that everything is proceeding well and requested respect for Verstappen’s privacy during this personal milestone. They added that no further comments would be made regarding the matter.
Verstappen, 27, is currently third in the Formula 1 driver standings after five races, trailing championship leader Oscar Piastri by 12 points. He and his partner, Kelly Piquet—daughter of three-time Brazilian world champion Nelson Piquet—announced they were expecting a child late last year.
