Verstappen Slams Ban Talk as 'Childish' Ahead of Canadian Grand Prix

Posted : 15 June 2025

Max Verstappen has voiced frustration over continued speculation about a potential race ban, calling questions about it "annoying" and "childish." The Red Bull driver, who will start Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix from second on the grid behind George Russell, is just one penalty point away from a ban following a deliberate collision with Russell at the Spanish Grand Prix.

During the press conference in Montreal, Verstappen brushed off the concerns, stating, "It's such a waste of time… I also don’t want to say too much because it’s really annoying."

Despite the shadow of disciplinary action, Verstappen remains defiant, insisting that the threat of suspension will not influence his approach on the track. “I cannot just back out of everything,” he stated. “I’m just going to race like I always do. I trust myself.”

Russell, who will line up alongside Verstappen in Montreal, joked about their tense rivalry, saying with a smile, “I have a few more points on my licence to play with, so let’s see.” Their front-row pairing revives a growing rivalry that has seen multiple flare-ups in recent seasons.

Tensions between the two drivers are not new. Their history includes heated exchanges following incidents in Qatar and Azerbaijan in 2023, where they publicly criticized each other, using terms like "bully" and "backstabber."

With that backdrop, Sunday’s race promises not only a battle for the lead but potentially another chapter in a fiery F1 rivalry that continues to captivate fans and stir controversy in the paddock.
