Verstappen Secures Pole for Miami Sprint Race Despite Tyre Woes

Posted : 04 May 2024

Max Verstappen clinched pole position for Saturday's sprint race at the Miami Grand Prix, albeit expressing dissatisfaction with his tyre performance despite finishing 0.108 seconds ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, with his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez securing third place. Verstappen voiced his disappointment, citing difficulties in getting the tyres to work optimally during the session, despite being the fastest in earlier practice.

Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo delivered an impressive performance, securing fourth place in his Red Bull ahead of Ferrari's Carlos Sainz. Ricciardo expressed surprise at his second-row start, acknowledging the challenge of navigating the tricky Miami track while pushing the limits. McLaren, initially showing promise, faced setbacks in the final session, with Oscar Piastri in sixth and Lando Norris starting from ninth after pushing too hard and making mistakes.

Mercedes experienced disappointment as both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell failed to advance from SQ2, highlighting the team's need for improvements ahead of the main qualifying. Verstappen's earlier dominance in practice sessions continued, setting the fastest lap despite handling issues, while Leclerc encountered a spin that disrupted the session. The sprint race is set to take place on Saturday, preceding Sunday's main race, promising further excitement and competition in the Miami Grand Prix.
