Formula 1 heads to the Marina Bay Street Circuit from 9-11 October for the Singapore Grand Prix, with the event hosting its first Sprint weekend since joining the championship calendar in 2008. The night race will be the 2026 season's sixth and final Sprint event.
The weekend follows a dramatic Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, where Max Verstappen claimed his first victory of the season at Sepang. Kimi Antonelli finished second for Mercedes, while Lewis Hamilton recovered to take third for Ferrari.
Antonelli's second-place finish strengthened his position at the top of the drivers' championship. The Italian now leads Mercedes team-mate George Russell by 84 points after Russell retired from the Malaysian race with a suspected power-unit problem.
Verstappen's victory has added another storyline to the championship's closing stages. Red Bull struggled for much of the season but recent upgrades have improved the car, while the four-time world champion has now returned to winning form.
Singapore will provide a different challenge. The Marina Bay circuit is a 4.927-kilometre street track with 62 laps, and the race is held under floodlights. Singapore hosted Formula 1's first night race in 2008 and has since become one of the sport's most distinctive events.
The Sprint format adds extra points and another opportunity for the leading drivers to gain ground. Sprint Qualifying will take place on Friday, followed by the 21-lap Sprint on Saturday and the main qualifying session later that evening.
For viewers in the UK, BBC coverage begins with first practice from 09:30 to 10:30 BST on Friday. Sprint Qualifying follows from 13:30 to 14:14, while Saturday's Sprint runs from 10:00 to 11:00 before Grand Prix qualifying from 14:00 to 15:00.
The Singapore Grand Prix will start at 13:00 BST on Sunday, with BBC coverage beginning at 12:45. Commentary will be available through 5 Sports Extra, BBC Sounds and the BBC Sport website and app.
The Sprint awards points to the top eight finishers, with the winner receiving eight points and eighth place earning one. Those points are added directly to the drivers' and constructors' championship totals.
Singapore's weather could also play a role across the weekend. Forecasts indicate the possibility of thundery showers and high temperatures around 33C, although conditions are expected to be more settled around the later racing sessions.
With the title battle entering its decisive phase, Antonelli will aim to extend his advantage while Russell looks to recover ground. Verstappen, Hamilton and the rest of the field will also have the opportunity to influence the championship picture during Singapore's Sprint weekend.
