Sergio Perez Confident of Podium Chances with Cadillac in 2026 F1 Season

Posted : 11 November 2025

Race winner Sergio Perez is confident he can reach the Formula One podium with Cadillac, even if the US-based team is expected to be one of the slowest on its debut next season.

Perez and his Finnish teammate, Valtteri Bottas, bring a wealth of experience to the new team, with a combined total of 527 race starts and 16 Grand Prix victories. Both 36, they will return to F1 after spending a year away from the sport.

Having been dropped as Max Verstappen's teammate at Red Bull at the end of 2023, Perez has 39 career podium finishes. The Mexican driver sees no reason he cannot reach 40 before retiring.

Backed by General Motors, Cadillac has invested heavily in its debut F1 effort. The team has already recruited staff from established teams, now numbering over 400, with a target of around 600. To prepare, Perez will drive a 2023 Ferrari at Imola this month to shake off rust and allow the team to gel, even though many of the personnel are already familiar to him.

The 2026 Cadillac will use a Ferrari engine but has yet to be built. Official testing is scheduled for late January in Barcelona. Perez’s upcoming laps in a Ferrari will mark his first time behind the wheel of one of the Italian team’s cars since racing for Sauber in 2011 as part of Ferrari’s young driver academy.

Perez said he is enjoying the atmosphere at Cadillac and is excited to be part of the first all-new team on the grid since Haas joined a decade ago.

He added that his focus is on development rather than immediate results.

When he was announced as a Cadillac driver in August, Perez said he had nothing to prove and simply wanted to enjoy racing again. His growing fan base has already shown support, with Cadillac merchandise visible at recent races in Texas and Mexico City.
