Sebastian Job Transitions from Sim Racing to Real-World Driving with Red Bull

Posted : 12 February 2025

Sebastian Job, an English esports gamer, found himself standing beside Fernando Alonso in Barcelona for a photoshoot, marking a significant moment in his career—he was officially a professional driver, despite never having driven a racing car before. Job had gained recognition by winning numerous simulated racing events, eventually earning a spot on Alonso’s esports team, which later merged with Oracle Red Bull Racing. While it is mandatory for all F1 teams to have esports divisions, Red Bull made history by being the first to put a sim racer behind the wheel of a real F1 car.

During his limited laps in an F1 car, Job impressed, coming within one second of ex-F1 driver Patrick Friesacher’s standard time in a 2012 title-winning V8 car, and he was even more competitive in a Porsche GT3. Job’s transition from esports to real-world racing is documented in a Red Bull film titled Game to Glory, showcasing his journey from the virtual world to the racetrack. Job's achievements in sim racing have been remarkable, with three world titles to his name in the virtual Porsche Carrera Cup series.

Now, Job has set his sights on racing in the Porsche Carrera Cup at iconic tracks such as Brands Hatch and Donington Park. Reflecting on his journey, Job shared how he initially turned to sim racing due to financial constraints preventing him from entering F1, and now, 11 years later, he has the opportunity to drive a real F1 car. His success serves as an inspiration to others, demonstrating how sim racing can lead to real-world opportunities in motorsport.

Red Bull’s head of esports, Joseph Soltysik, expressed the team’s excitement about Job’s potential and their shared vision of seeing him race in real life. The challenge now is to find a feasible and sustainable way to fund Job’s transition into the Porsche series or similar racing categories, but the team is fully supportive of his aspirations.
