Pierre Gasly has been officially reinstated to third place in the Monaco Grand Prix after the FIA overturned two time penalties that had cost the Alpine driver a podium finish. The decision was announced on Friday following a successful appeal by the French team.
Gasly initially crossed the line in third position during last weekend's race in Monaco. However, race stewards later handed him two separate five-second penalties for exceeding the pit-lane speed limit by narrow margins of 0.1 km/h and 0.4 km/h. The sanctions dropped the Frenchman from third to seventh in the final classification.
Alpine challenged the penalties through the FIA's Right of Review process, arguing that a timing-related issue had affected the decision. After examining the evidence, the governing body agreed to rescind the penalties, restoring Gasly's original finishing position and podium result.
In a statement, Alpine welcomed the outcome and thanked both the FIA and Formula One Management for their cooperation during the review. The team said it appreciated the transparency shown throughout the process and was pleased with the final ruling.
With the Monaco matter resolved, Alpine said its attention has shifted fully to the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix at Barcelona-Catalunya, where the team hopes to secure another strong performance with both drivers.
Gasly was not the only competitor penalized for pit-lane speeding during the Monaco weekend. Several other drivers, including Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes' George Russell, McLaren's Oscar Piastri and Alpine teammate Franco Colapinto, also received five-second time penalties for similar infractions.
The revised result provides a significant boost for Gasly and Alpine, with the French driver now officially credited with a podium finish from one of Formula One's most prestigious races.
