Pierre Gasly made an impressive statement by qualifying third for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, a result that marked Alpine's best grid position of the season. This achievement follows a remarkable double podium finish for the team in Brazil, reinforcing their strong recent performances. Gasly's placement puts him ahead of several top drivers, including Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, with only Mercedes' George Russell and Ferrari's Carlos Sainz ahead of him.
Despite the excitement of his position, Gasly kept his focus on Alpine's true objective: competing in the midfield battle for the Constructors' Championship. He acknowledged the significance of his qualifying result but emphasized that Alpine's fight lies with teams like Haas and AlphaTauri. The French driver noted that while qualifying ahead of championship contenders was an unexpected bonus, it doesn’t change the team's priorities for the season.
Alpine's recent strong performances, including their surge to sixth in the Constructors' standings after Brazil, have placed them just ahead of Haas and AlphaTauri. Gasly's teammate, Esteban Ocon, who finished second in Brazil, qualified 11th for the Las Vegas race. Haas had Nico Hulkenberg qualifying ninth, while Yuki Tsunoda from AlphaTauri lined up in seventh, highlighting the competitive nature of the midfield battle.
Gasly, who has had a challenging season with Alpine, expressed pride in his top-three qualifying result, something he hasn’t achieved before. Reflecting on the progress Alpine has made since the start of the year, team principal Oliver Oakes pointed to consistent improvements since the Austin race. Gasly’s performance has steadily improved, and the team is optimistic about their trajectory as they continue to refine their upgrades and dial in their performance.
