Piastri Seizes Dutch Grand Prix Win as Norris Retires in Heartbreak

Posted : 01 September 2025

Oscar Piastri delivered a masterclass at Zandvoort to claim his seventh victory of the season, while McLaren teammate Lando Norris saw his race collapse in dramatic fashion after an oil leak forced him out from second place just seven laps from the finish.

The 23-year-old Australian once again showcased composure and precision, extending his championship advantage to 34 points after controlling a chaotic race riddled with crashes, penalties, and three safety car periods. Piastri led from pole position and held firm under consistent pressure from Norris before the Briton’s engine failure ended his hopes.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen capitalized on the drama to finish second, while French rookie Isack Hadjar stunned the paddock with a maiden podium, securing third for Racing Bulls at just 20 years old.

For Norris, the setback was crushing. The Briton, who had won three of the last four races, sat despondently in the Zandvoort dunes as his title challenge suffered a heavy blow. This was his second retirement of the year following a crash in Canada, leaving him with a daunting task to close the gap on his teammate.

Ferrari endured a nightmare weekend. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton both retired after separate crashes at Turn Three, while further incidents involving Kimi Antonelli and Carlos Sainz added to the chaos. Stewards handed multiple penalties as tempers flared across the grid.

Elsewhere, George Russell steered Mercedes to fourth, Alex Albon impressed for Williams in fifth, and young Briton Oliver Bearman clinched a career-best sixth after a bold late charge. Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll ensured Aston Martin points, while Yuki Tsunoda and Esteban Ocon rounded out the top ten.

The Dutch Grand Prix may prove a pivotal moment in the championship battle—Piastri now firmly in control, Norris reeling, and the rest of the grid left counting the cost of a bruising afternoon at Zandvoort.
