Oscar Piastri has reaffirmed his commitment to McLaren, confirming that he will continue racing for the British team and putting an end to speculation linking Max Verstappen with a move to replace him. Speaking ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, the Australian made it clear he expects to remain with McLaren in 2027 and expressed complete confidence in the team's long-term plans.
Rumours had intensified in recent weeks as reports suggested Red Bull could target Piastri if Verstappen departed, while the reigning four-time world champion was also linked with a potential switch to McLaren. Piastri, however, dismissed any concerns, saying he was comfortable with his position and had received unwavering support from McLaren chief executive Zak Brown and team principal Andrea Stella.
The 25-year-old acknowledged the transfer speculation but insisted it had not affected his focus. He said the confidence shown in him by McLaren's leadership was all that mattered, adding that he trusted the team's vision and had no reason to question his future with the constructor.
Piastri also addressed Verstappen's situation, suggesting the Dutch driver was exploring his options amid a difficult period with Red Bull. He noted that similar rumours had surfaced previously regarding Verstappen's future, describing the current speculation as part of Formula One's ever-active driver market rather than something unusual.
Verstappen, meanwhile, declined to discuss reports surrounding his future when questioned by reporters in Belgium. The Red Bull driver refused to comment on links with McLaren, leaving the speculation unresolved even as Piastri publicly reaffirmed his loyalty to his current team.
