Oliver Solberg Triumphs at 2026 Monte‑Carlo Rally

Posted : 26 January 2026

The 94th edition of the Rallye Automobile Monte‑Carlo, held from 22 to 25 January 2026, kicked off the World Rally Championship season in dramatic fashion. Competitors faced a challenging mix of asphalt, ice, snow, and rain across 17 stages in the French Alps, including the legendary Col de Turini. The unpredictable conditions tested drivers’ skill and strategy, particularly when it came to tyre choices on rapidly changing surfaces.

Swedish driver Oliver Solberg, alongside co‑driver Elliott Edmondson, emerged victorious, claiming his first Monte‑Carlo Rally win. Solberg dominated from the early stages, demonstrating speed and consistency, and finished ahead of Toyota team‑mate Elfyn Evans in second place and multiple Monte‑Carlo champion Sébastien Ogier in third. His victory also made him the youngest driver in the modern WRC era to win the event.

Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT celebrated a remarkable achievement with a 1‑2‑3 podium sweep, the first time the team had accomplished this in Monte‑Carlo since 2015. The result underscored Toyota’s strong start to the 2026 season and highlighted their cars’ performance under extreme conditions.

In the support categories, Léo Rossel claimed a commanding victory in WRC2, while Eric Royère took the top spot in WRC3. Both drivers impressed with their consistency and pace across the demanding stages, setting themselves up as contenders in their respective classes for the rest of the season.

With maximum points in hand and momentum on his side, Oliver Solberg now heads into Rally Sweden as a strong contender for the 2026 World Rally Championship title, while Toyota looks to maintain its early dominance in the competition.
