MotoGP Secures Historic Manufacturer Deal Through 2031 as Rider Market Set to Open

Posted : 21 June 2026

MotoGP has secured a landmark commercial agreement with its five manufacturers that will guarantee their participation in the championship until 2031. The deal, announced on Friday, has been described as a historic step for the sport and will see manufacturers benefit from a share of revenue generated through television rights, sponsorships and race-hosting circuits.

The agreement involves Aprilia, Ducati, Honda, KTM and Yamaha, which collectively operate under the Motorcycle Sport Manufacturers Association (MSMA). Modelled on Formula 1's Concorde Agreements, the arrangement formalises a five-year commitment from the manufacturers and is expected to strengthen the sport's long-term commercial stability.

Negotiations over the deal took place over several weeks and included representatives from the MSMA, MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group (SEG) and Liberty Media, the company that recently acquired MotoGP's commercial rights.

MotoGP SEG Chief Executive Officer Carmelo Ezpeleta described the agreement as a significant milestone for the championship. He said the manufacturers' commitment reflects both the strength of the series and a shared vision for future growth.

According to Ezpeleta, MotoGP's focus remains on expanding its global audience, modernising the sport and creating stronger connections with fans around the world.

MSMA President and Aprilia Racing CEO Massimo Rivola also welcomed the agreement, calling it a historic day for MotoGP and its stakeholders.

Reports indicate that each manufacturer could receive approximately €8 million annually from the sport's commercial revenues, including income from broadcasting rights, sponsorship agreements and race venues.

The agreement is also expected to end the secrecy surrounding rider negotiations for the 2027 season. Several high-profile moves have reportedly already been agreed, with official announcements now anticipated in the coming months.

Among the most notable expected transfers is Spanish rider Pedro Acosta's move from KTM to Ducati, where he is tipped to partner seven-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez.

Other reported changes include Alex Marquez leaving Ducati-Gresini for KTM alongside Italy's Fabio Di Giannantonio, while former world champion Francesco "Pecco" Bagnaia is expected to switch from Ducati to Aprilia.

French rider Fabio Quartararo is also being linked with a move from Yamaha to Honda, while reigning champion Jorge Martín and Japanese rider Ai Ogura are reportedly set to join Yamaha from Aprilia.

The new agreement comes ahead of major regulatory changes scheduled for 2027. Under the revised rules, riders will have access to only one motorcycle during practice sessions, while teams will be encouraged to adopt more sophisticated marketing and communication strategies similar to those used in Formula 1.

MotoGP is also preparing for a significant technical overhaul, with engine capacity set to be reduced from 1,000cc to 850cc. The change is aimed at improving safety standards and reducing the environmental impact of the championship while maintaining competitive racing.
